Holistic massage is an massage treatment which is specifically tailored for each client following a consultation with the therapist. A holistic practitioner treats the client as a whole, taking into account their emotional and spiritual wellbeing, as well as their physical body.
Therapists offering holistic massage are trained to use a wide range of massage techniques which can vary from subtle energy work to deep tissue methods; from dynamic mobilisations to gentle holds.
Flexibility in applying this knowledge is vital since the use of different techniques on different client will depend greatly on the client’s particular needs at that present time. Every treatment is unique, providing a creative opportunity for the practitioner to adapt to the given situation and the client physical and mental requirements.
The definition of Holism “Holistic” means whole.
Throughout history we have used our hands to give comfort, and healing to one another. Touching is contact, warmth, reassurance that we are not alone, affirmation of our sense of being and self-worth, this simple way of communicating is something that we all do naturally everyday of our lives.
Our sense of touch is registered by our skin, our largest and most sensitive organ. The intent that goes with touch makes all the difference to its effects.
The minute as therapists we place our hands on another persons body, we begin to treat both mind and body. The experience of being nourished and cared for and allowing ourselves a “Healing” touch, raises our self- esteem, creates trust and openness and can sometimes facilitate the release of blocked emotions and tense muscles to relax.
For those not wanting or not feeling comfortable having a whole body massage especially if this is the first time you have had a massage treatment this treatment can be broken down into areas of the body that the client feels the most comfortable having massaged, for example the back, neck and shoulders or the legs and feet.
